Emirates is expanding its cargo operations with a new order of five Boeing 777F freighters, aiming to meet increasing demand and solidify Dubai’s role as a global logistics hub. In addition, the airline has extended the lease on four existing Boeing 777Fs through a multi-year agreement with Dubai Aerospace Enterprise. By December 2026, Emirates SkyCargo is set to operate a fleet of 21 Boeing 777F freighters, up from its current 11. This expansion aligns with the airline’s goal to capitalize on market opportunities driven by the rise in e-commerce and global trade.

Looking ahead, Emirates is set to decide by the end of this year on additional freighter orders for 2028-2029, choosing between the Boeing 777X freighter (777-8F) and the Airbus A350-1000F. Amid delays in aircraft deliveries, Emirates is also converting 10 Boeing 777-300ER passenger planes into freighters. Despite technical challenges with these conversions, the airline remains confident in their completion. Demand for air cargo is surging, with Middle Eastern carriers reporting a 13.5% rise in demand in August, according to IATA.
